I have been to a few networking events recently and find they are inundated with companies selling various sorts of web and internet solutions. Social media is the biggy of the moment. If you are not on Linkedin or if you are not on Twitter you must be feeling very left out! If you are not paying for your clicks how do you expect to get traffic to your website? The new one of the moment is getting video onto your site - video your customers telling the world how amazing you are then get them up on your site, onto YouTube - any where you can.
BIG WORDS OF WARNING!
Before you go spend any more money on your website have a real good look at your website. Is the message right? Is it easy to use? Do you know whether it "works" for you? Do you know its "purpose"? Do your customers know its purpose? Do you have an internet strategy? Are you measuring the activity? Who do you want to attract to your site? Can you update and change your content? Are you in control? Is your image and brand carried throughout your site?
Before you get pulled into spending more on your website you need to be 100% confident that your website has the potential to bring in the results you require. Try looking through your website with fresh eyes. Put yourself in your customer shoes, use the search terms you would use to find you. Unless all the basics are in place chucking more money at your website isn't going to make much of a difference. There is no magic formula its all about knowing your business and knowing your customer. You need to know what you want and you need to be able to measure the return. The phrase that keeps coming to mind is "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear".
If you want to take a step back and look at your website through fresh eyes either join in one of our summer workshops or email me for a complimentary overview (first 10 respondents only).
